From time to time EmberLit gets batches of hand crafted natural handlines. The materials used are birch, maple, and bamboo laminate. Made by a most talented craftsman here in the USA. We don't get them often as he is a busy guy, but they are so very nice. These are hard to get and there are only a couple dozen in this batch so they will go fast.

This batch of natural Cabuya Handlines are made from maple laminate with bamboo accents. They are stained and sealed.

The name “Cabuya” (ka Boo yah) comes from the Taino word for a thin line or string used for fishing. These lines were employed with hooks and lures made from bone and turtle shell to catch fish. Handline fishing is that simple.

This method of fishing long predates any sort of rod and reel and still today feeds millions of people around the world. It is a direct connection to the fish. Without the buffer of rod and reel every twitch, every strike, is communicated directly to your hands. There is no mechanical drag between you and the fight. This is the bare knuckle boxing of fishing.

Cabuya Casting Handlines add a little convenience to this ancient practice by keeping one’s line neatly organized yet ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. The unique features of the Cabuya allows the line to strip off the end of the reel for long casts even with light lures. Not only are they super convenient for backpackers, pilots, paddlers, and survival fishing, Cabuya Casting Handlines are perfect for young children - even us older ones.

 

 

CASTING YOUR CABUYA

Casting your handline will take a little practice. The wooden ball that comes attached to your line is for this purpose. It's great fun if you have a cat.

Simply hold the Cabuya in one hand and swing the ball around in the other and throw in an underhand toss. Make sure you are pointing the Cabuya towards where you want to cast so that the line can strip off the end of the reel.

To keep the line from unwinding prematurely or if you want to stop your cast in mid air press your index finger against the windings to pin the line.

Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will immediately notify you on the status of your refund after inspecting the item. If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund to your original method of payment. You will receive the credit within the terms set forth by your credit card/debit card company. 

You have 30 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition in which you received it. Your item must be in the original packaging. Your item must have the receipt or proof of purchase .If you make a purchase for the holidays between October 1st and December 25th we will accept returns for those items up until January 31st of the following year provided that the same requirements above are met - the item is unused, has original packaging returned with it, and has a proof of receipt showing the date of purchase. PLEASE NOTE:  The purchaser shall be responsible for paying return shipping costs. Initial shipping fees are nonrefundable.  If your return qualifies for a refund you will receive the refund for that item(s) minus a 10% restocking fee.
